Andris has had vast experience working with rare disease patients. He is an author of numerous scientific articles on the topic of rare diseases. His PhD thesis topic was “Assessment of hemodynamic parameters and identification of risk of mortality factors in patients with pulmonary arterial and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.” Andris has worked both as principal investigator and sub-investigator in various international clinical trials, as well as conducted single-center studies based in Latvian PH center.

Andris is the recipient of several competitive research grants including Introduction of Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty Method and Evaluation of its Effectiveness in the Treatment of Patients with Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension at Pauls Stradins University Clinical Hospital. Andris has worked both as principal investigator and sub-investigator in various international clinical trials, as well as conducted single-centre studies based in Latvian PH centre. With the assistance of Latvian Rare Disease Specialist Association, Andris regularly organises rare disease conferences for students and specialists in hopes to raise awareness of rare diseases. 

Andris has established collaboration with Vienna General Hospital, by means of which his patients in Latvia have had countless opportunities for better health care. He has personally organised all of the pulmonary endarterectomies that have been done for Latvian CTEPH patients, some of which have been done in Vienna, and some with the help of visiting specialists from Austria and Poland.

In 2022. prof. Skride, dr. Rudzītis, prof. Kurzyna (PL) started Balloon Pulmonary angyoplasty program in Latvia.
